The Little Palace

Al Qasr Al Sagheer, which literally means ‘The Little Palace’, is located to the north of Raghadan Palace (the ‘big’ palace). It was built immediately after Raghadan, as the residence of His Majesty the Founding King Abdullah I. The Little Palace is separated from Raghadan by a small, beautiful garden.

This Palace is a companion to Raghadan Palace, which was a place of authority and leadership as well as a house and a diwan. At a later stage, His Majesty King Talal and Her Majesty Queen Zein, may their souls rest in peace, resided in The Little Palace. Their son, His Majesty King Hussein, may his soul rest in peace, was born there on 14 November 1935. A small plaque is placed on the door of the room where King Hussein was born, with an inscription of a verse from Surat Al Ahzab from the Holy Quran:

“And God only wishes to remove all abomination from you, ye members of the Family and to make you pure and spotless.”

Next to the verse, the inscription reads:

“Born in this room on 18 Shaaban 1354 Hijri (14 November 1935), was the Hashemite Sharif Al Hussein bin Talal bin Abdullah, may God have mercy on him, who was crowned King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 18 Rabi Al Thani 1372 Hijri, and who passed away on 21 Shawwal 1419 Hijri (7 February 1999).”
