International Recognition

No leader in the region has received the recognition His Majesty King Abdullah II has for his efforts to promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as promote harmony, tolerance and human rights, and defend Islam’s image.

This recognition is evident in the awards and accolades His Majesty has received from various institutions, academies, and cities:

2003

The "Association de Politique Etrangère de la Sorbonne" and the "Revue Politique Internationale" Political Courage Prize was presented to His Majesty in recognition of his courage and vision for the future of the Middle East

2004

His Majesty received the Golden Plate Award for Achievement from the US Academy of Achievement

2005

The King received the Golden Medal of Athens in honour of his initiatives to encourage interfaith and intercultural dialogue

2006

His Majesty received the St. Andrew the-First-Called international prize, “Dialogue of Civilisations,” in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the consolidation of accord between civilisations.

2016

The King received the Peace of Westphalia Prize in the German city of Münster, in recognition of his endeavours for peace and international security and stability.

2018

His Majesty was awarded the Templeton Prize in Washington, D.C, in appreciation for his efforts to seek religious harmony between religions, safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and protect religious freedoms.

2019

The King received the Lamp of Peace award in Assisi, Italy, for his efforts to promote human rights, harmony, interfaith dialogue, and peace in the Middle East and the world. In the same year, His Majesty also received the Scholar-Statesman Award from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

2022

Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania Al Abdullah received the Path to Peace Award, presented by the Path to Peace Foundation affiliated with the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, in appreciation of their role in promoting interfaith dialogue and harmony, seeking peace opportunities, and for Jordan’s efforts in hosting refugees. In the same year, Their Majesties received the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, for their efforts to promote human fraternity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
