Addressing the World

His Majesty King Abdullah II has been among the most prominent Arab and Middle Eastern leaders on the international stage during the period 1999-2023, speaking before the United Nations General Assembly, the United States Congress, the European Parliament, leading universities around the world, and specialised international and civil society organisations.

In his speeches, His Majesty focuses on three key issues: Jordan’s top national interests, the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, as well as the image of Islam and defending it against extremism.

House of Commons of the United Kingdom

In a historic speech before the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 2001, His Majesty reaffirmed the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and the need to recognise their right to establish their independent state.

European Parliament

His Majesty has addressed the European Parliament more than any other leader in the region and the world, delivering speeches in the years 2002, 2007, 2012, 2015, and 2020.

US Congress

In 2007, His Majesty delivered a landmark address to the US Congress in a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives, stressing the key role of the United States in leading peace efforts, and outlining the Arab Peace Initiative.
