12 December 2018

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met with European Council President Donald Tusk and discussed prospects for broadening cooperation and partnership between Jordan and European Union countries.

The two sides affirmed the importance of building on the Jordan-EU Partnership Priorities to enhance economic, investment, trade, and military cooperation.

Discussions at the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah bin Ghazi, covered the scheme on simplifying the EU rules of origin, agreed in 2016 to increase Jordanian exports to European markets and attract new investments to Jordan.

In addition, the meeting addressed the burden of the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan’s economy and the support provided by the EU to mitigate it.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of the Jordan conference set to be hosted by London early next year to support the Jordanian economy by attracting investors.

Discussions also touched on the important role of the European Union in pushing the Palestinian-Israeli peace process forward, and in working towards political solutions to regional crises.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Trade Minister Tariq Hammouri, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Brussels Yousef Bataineh attended the meeting.
