King meets presidents of Italian Senate, Chamber of Deputies

His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday met separately with President of the Italian Senate Ignazio La Russa and President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana in Rome.
 
The two meetings covered the importance of building on the partnership between the two countries across various sectors.
 
King Abdullah stressed the important role of Italian and European Union parliamentarians in supporting efforts to relaunch the peace process on the basis of the two-state solution between the Palestinians and the Israelis, calling for stepping up efforts build trust in the peace process.
 
The two meetings covered regional and international issues, as well as efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises.
 
For his part, the Senate president stressed the distinguished ties between Jordan and Italy, noting the Kingdom’s pivotal role in bolstering regional stability.
 
He thanked Jordan for hosting refugees, stressing the importance of the Aqaba Process launched by His Majesty to counter terrorism and extremism.
 
For his part, president of the Italian Chamber of Deputies stressed the vital role of the Hashemite Custodianship in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, expressing support for efforts to relaunch the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
 
He commended Jordan’s efforts, led by His Majesty, in highlighting the true image of Islam, promoting interfaith dialogue, and countering extremism.
 
The president of the Italian Chamber of Deputies also voiced support for efforts to bolster cooperation between Jordan and Italy in energy, tourism, and water, commending Jordan as an model in dealing with refugees.
 
He expressed interest in Jordan’s political, economic, and administrative modernisation efforts, noting the importance of exchanging parliamentary visits and enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
 
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Italy Qais Abu Daieh attended the two meetings.
